Comparison
Noteable vs Shopify Order Printer for gift messages
Order Printer prints the message in a document you design in HTML and Liquid, such as a packing slip. Noteable prints it on your own card design, a PDF you upload.
Updated
Shopify Order Printer and Noteable can both print a shopper’s gift message from a Shopify order. They print it on different things, and you set them up in different ways.
Short answer
Choose Order Printer if a packing slip with the message on it is enough and you’re happy to edit Liquid: it’s free. Choose Noteable if the message should print on your own card design, in a handwriting font if you like, without code.

How each one works
Shopify Order Printer
Shopify Order Printer is Shopify’s free app for printing documents from templates you write in HTML, CSS and Liquid, the template language Shopify’s own documents use. A template can show anything the order holds: the note, the fields under Additional details, each item’s properties, the address. Print from an order with More actions › Print with Order Printer, or select several orders on the Orders page and print them together.
It doesn’t add a message field to your store. It prints what the order already holds. The older Order Printer app is no longer on the App Store, so Shopify Order Printer is the one to install.
Noteable
You upload your card design as a PDF and draw a box where each entry goes: the recipient, the message, the sender. Shoppers fill in Noteable’s block on your product page, and the entries are saved with the item. Print the cards from the order with More actions › Noteable, or select orders on the Orders page and choose Print › Noteables to print all their cards at once.
Which one to choose
Choose Order Printer if…
- You want it free.
- A packing slip or another plain document is fine.
- You’re comfortable editing HTML and Liquid.
Choose Noteable if…
- You want a card that matches your brand.
- You’d rather not write code.
- You want handwriting fonts on the card.
Using both
A gift order often needs two things: a slip that lists what’s in the box, and a card for the person who opens it. Print the slip from Order Printer and the card from Noteable.
If you collect the message with Noteable’s block, it’s saved in the item’s properties, so Order Printer can print it on the slip too: the loop is in How to print the gift message on your Shopify packing slip. If the slip goes in the box, leave the message off it, so the recipient reads it only on the card.
Questions
Can Shopify Order Printer print gift messages?
Yes, if the message is already on the order. Add the order note, the cart fields under Additional details or each item’s properties to a template with Liquid. It doesn’t add a message field to your store.
Is Shopify Order Printer free?
Yes. Noteable has a Free plan, and paid plans from $12/month with a 14-day free trial, billed through Shopify.
Can I use my own card design with Order Printer?
Only by rebuilding it in the template’s HTML and CSS, for example around an image of your design uploaded to your store’s Files. Noteable prints on your PDF itself.
Can I use Noteable and Order Printer together?
Yes. Print the slip from Order Printer and the card from Noteable. Noteable saves the message with the item, so Order Printer can print it on the slip too.
